Disney Lorcana cards graded by CCC

History of Lorcana

Disney Lorcana is a TCG published by Ravensburger and officially released on August 18, 2023 in 3 languages: French, English and German. It features the Disney characters and heroes we all know through superbly illustrated cards.

Several events gave collectors the chance to preview the cards before release date:

  • D23 Expo (September 9-11, 2022 in Californie, USA)
At the annual Disney Expo in the USA, the very first Lorcana cards were distributed on the stand dedicated to the presentation of the new TCG, announced a few days earlier on September 30, 2022.
There were 7 different cards bearing the "D23 Expo - 1st Edition" stamp:

  1. Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor (D23 Expo Promo)

CCC Grading has certified several examples of the Mickey D23, one of which was awarded the Gold Label (CCC 10).

How was this card distributed ?

A "non-foil" version of the most mythical character in Disney history, Mickey, was given away for free to the first visitors to the Lorcana stand at Expo D23. Rumor has it that this card was printed in only a few thousand copies (estimated at around 5,000).

What is the value of a Mickey D23 Expo card ?

The copies distributed were quickly sought after by many collectors, and sales of this card reached 4-figure sums in the first few months on the secondary market. By the time you read this, its value will have potentially fluctuated. The fact that it was released almost a year before the official release of the TCG has given this card a reputation and a specific market: many people wanted to get their hands on a Lorcana card in advance.

Why this card promises to remain an iconic Lorcana card ?

This is the first printing of Disney's most recognizable character! This card is sometimes described as Lorcana's "future Charizard 1st Edition". Add to this the fact that it was a card given away at a convention not specializing in TCGs, and few have kept it in perfect condition (potential CCC 10). Indeed, the possible lack of sleeves on site may have led to some copies being poorly packaged. The card could also have been viewed as a simple "goodie" for visitors to D23 not accustomed to TCGs and card certification.

  2. The 6 cards of the D23 Collector’s Set (Elsa, Captain Hook, Stitch, Robin Hood, Maleficient, Cruella de Vil)

These 6 cards were distributed in a box called "D23 Collector's Set" during the D23 convention.

They feature a special foil treatment: Inkwash Foil.

How many copies were distributed ?

It was reported that only 300 copies of this box set were sold on each day of the convention. That would mean only 900 copies of each card!

Are those 6 cards the most valuable Lorcana cards ?

Although they were sold at an initial retail price of $49.99 on the Lorcana stand, the low quantities allocated made these 6 cards the most expensive Lorcana cards on the secondary market to date.
Prices reaching over $15,000 have been recorded for a complete set of these 6 graded cards before the official release of the TCG. Today, sales prices for these 6 cards have fallen slightly, but remain very high.

  • GenCon 2023 (August 3, 2023 in Indianapolis, USA)

An exclusive "Mickey - Musketeer" card was distributed a few weeks before the game's official release, and a number of First Chapter products were available for purchase at the convention. Although this was a pre-release promo, the value of this card was much lower than that of the D23 expo cards.

Lorcana : The First Chapter

The first set "The First Chapter" was released on August 18, 2023, and this set is appreciated by many collectors thanks to the announcement of Enchanted cards (Lorcana's secret rarity). These Enchanted cards feature cards from the set with a new, borderless alternative visual and the "Inkwash Foil" foil treatment, which differs from the classic foil on expansion cards.

The First Chapter features 12 cards with the "Enchanted" rarity:

  • Tinker Bell - Giant Fairy
  • Simba – Returned King
  • Belle – Strange but special
  • Aurora – Dreaming Guardian
  • Maui – Hero to All
  • Aladdin – Heroic Outlaw
  • Mickey Mouse – Artful Rogue
  • Genie – On the job
  • Mickey Mouse – Wayward Sorcerer
  • Elsa – Spirit of Winter
  • Stitch – Carefree surfer
  • Hades – King of Olympus
